Chief Philanthropy Officer

Position Status: Part-time Contract

Rate: $28,000-$38,000 commensurate with experience

Position Description: The ideal candidate for this position wants to lead efforts to make Barnwell and Allendale Counties the best place to live, work, and raise a family. By supporting volunteer engagement and community investment, the CPO will work with community stakeholders to executive a plan to address key social issues in the two counties enhancing health, financial stability, and education. The CPO reports to the BCUW Board of Directors. There are no other paid staff, but the CPO may recruit interns or Americorps team members to support the organization’s mission. Barnwell County United Way serves Barnwell and Allendale Counties. Our work centers on health, financial stability, and education. The Chief Philanthropy Officer is a part-time position housed at the Barnwell YMCA.

Job Duties:

Resource Development (50%)

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to ensure growing opportunities to invest in the community
  • Achieve revenue goals through annual giving, campaign, and fundraising events
  • Identify and write successful grant applications
  • Successfully cultivate and renew donor gifts at a high rate

Community Engagement (35%)

  • Maintain an updated contact database for all mission-related nonprofit partners in Barnwell and Allendale Counties
  • Coordinate a quarterly nonprofit CEO roundtable
  • Manage the collection of applications for allocations and ensure a fair and equitable allocation process happens annually
  • Promote the organization at community events and clubs
  • Utilize digital and traditional media to promote the BCUW and its partners

Administration (15%)

  • Develop and present an annual budget for approval to the Board of Directors
  • Collaborate with the treasurer to ensure timely and accurate financial statements are presented monthly to the board
  • Maintain administrative records and timely reporting for authorities including but not limited to the SC Secretary of State, IRS, Board of Directors, and other partners
  • Participate as an active member of the larger United Way network ensuring the organization is in compliance and aware of trends both in SC and nationally

  • Clear and persuasive communicator
  • Analyze and tackle problems in a fair and collaborative manner, and put in place the systems, processes and accountabilities necessary to support solutions
  • Experience working on projects from start to finish
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Capacity to balance competing priorities and differentiate between urgent and important tasks
